A home energy audit analyses an existing home to determine where and how energy is being lost, what appliances and systems are operating inefficiently and what cost-effective improvements can be implemented to enhance the comfort and efficiency of a home.
The auditor creates a report detailing the diagnostic testing, cost-effective recommendations for repairs, a cost/benefit analysis for the recommended improvements and expected return on investment.
During the audit, the auditor will use techniques and equipment such as a blower door, which measures the extent of leaks in the building and infrared cameras, which reveals hard-to-detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.
